A Little Red Measuring Tape

The story behind our logo

I was at a family gathering years ago when my mother arrived with a box of my grandmother's sewing supplies. My grandmother was a special soul, and we'd lost her that May. With the supplies in that box she'd lovingly made us quilts, pillows, sweaters, dolls and mittens, and (at my special request) a skirt for me like the one in the movie Dirty Dancing.

After she passed, we'd taken on the bittersweet task of finding homes for all her items. I'd chosen all the items special to me, but that day at my mother's insistence I peered in to the sewing box. There it was – the red measuring tape. I didn’t know why, but I had to have it and seized it along with a couple of spools of thread. But when I got home, I couldn't figure out what I'd use it for and tucked it in a cupboard, wondering why it felt so important to me.

The day I partnered with a friend and started Victor Custom shirts, I finally knew exactly why I was meant to have that measuring tape. When it was time to name my company, I thought about the red tape and the wonderful memories with my grandparents, so I named it Victor as a homage to my grandfather, and used the red tape as the graphic icon to immortalize a special time in my life where you make things for the people you love, and I hope to carry on that tradition.

I've used that red measuring tape to measure many men for their first custom shirts, and every time I see it or use it, I think of my grandmother and how she's helped me follow my passion. I feel so fortunate every time I see the delight on a customer's face when they put their shirt on, and I know that they don't just look good, they feel good.
